General Summary of the Position:

Responsible for assisting QA Director with automation tool research, analysis, selection, integration, training, deployment, and maintenance and support.  Consult with development and test designers on software and system design in order to facilitate test automation.  Ensure application and technology teams clearly understand the interface between system design and test design and how to design for test automation.  Develop automated test programs for UI testing of web-based applications and API testing of REST services.  Solve complex automation challenges and work on complex projects with minimal supervision. 

Essential Functions:

  • Design, document, and implement white box and black box test plans, test approaches and test cases using information from product requirement documents, knowledge of business processes and discussions with developers.
  • Design and develop manual function test cases as a base for creation of automated tests.
  • Design and develop automated function, regression and performance test programs/scripts based on libraries of re-usable code modules or functions.
  • Create and maintain test plans, automated test cases and automation test design documents.
  • Provide status reports and metrics on test case creation and execution and defects.
  • Assist QA Director in working with test teams and development to establish and promote best practices, standards and processes for automation testing.
  • Assist QA Director in defining and implementing test environment resources.
  • Train test engineers on proper development of automated tests and on proper use and administration of automation tools. 

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • 5 - 10 years of overall automation testing experience, including white box and black box testing, testing of REST services and testing of web-based and client/server applications.
  • Specialized experience in automated test design for n-tiered application frameworks.
  • Solid ability to write test documentation including test plans and test cases.
  • Proficient in developing test scripts with open source tools such as Selenium and JMeter.
  • Experience with commercial automation tools such as QTP and TestStudio (Telerik) is a plus as well as experience with HP Quality Center and Keyword-based testing.
  • Extensive experience with development of manual and automated function, regression, load, performance and stress tests.
  • Daily experience with the following tools and utilities is strongly recommended: Selenium IDE & RC, Eclipse, Quick Test Professional, Bugzilla, JIRA, soapUI, JMeter, C#, Python, VBScript, HTML, XML, Linux shell scripting, GIT, Subversion (SVN).
  • Proficient with SQL tools such as TOAD, and daily working experience with MySQL installations and Linux.
  • Familiar with software development at all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle, particularly Agile project experience.
  • Ability to apply business perspective and understand business drivers, and to propose test planning and test design solutions to support business needs.
  • Comfortable and experienced with collaborative, multi-lingual, multi-cultural team environments. 

Education Requirements:

  • BS or MS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
